Beyond Medicine: Alternatives For Healthy Living

Beyond Medicine: Alternatives For Healthy Living

Growing up, I didn’t give much thought to healthy living and what that meant to me. As I got older and experienced some health issues, I began to think more about it. Now, as a mom of three kids and entering a different phase in my life, I realize how important it is for me to get healthy, and stay healthy. After all, my kids are watching, and the things they see me do they are likely to emulate. (A scary thought, right?)

Here are some of the things I’ve tried to help my body (and mind) be healthy and strong. I admit, not all of them have worked, but I won’t give up until I find what’s best for me. I hope you are inspired to do the same!

Chiropractic:

Considered alternative medicine, I didn’t know much about it until a few years ago when I began dealing with lower back pain and decided to get it a try. I was amazed at what a difference the adjustments made to my overall health. I’ve been going ever since. Simply put, a chiropractor is a health care professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine. When you are out of alignment, it can make it harder for your body to fight infection and inflammation.

Chiropractic isn’t just for people who are dealing with car accidents, sports injuries, and chronic pain. It’s also helpful for regular maintanance. I’ve even taken my kids to the chiropractor after my daughter took a nasty fall off a horse, and my son was developing an ear infection. It has always been helpful to their recovery.

Massage Therapy:

Another natural alternative is massage. When I took a nasty fall and injured my back, massage therapy was an important key to regaining my strength and health. It helped with pain management, and muscle relaxation. When I found a good massage therapist that I liked, it really made a difference in my overall health.

Vitamin Supplements:

There are so many supplements out there, it was hard to know which ones I really needed most. Besides a good women’s multivitamin, I found that Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin D were essential to my body’s needs. The B complex helps my mood and hormones balance out, and gives me more energy, and the Vitamin D increased my overall energy level, as well as being good for my brain and bones. My favorite ones are Pure Encapsulations B Complex Plus, and Pure Encapsulations Vitamin D.

Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for modern medicine. But if I can, I try to use alternative options first. I hope you find these suggestions helpful in your own journey to healthy living.
